Passenger flow through Georgia’s airports skyrockets

Passenger flow in Georgia’s airports in January 2022 totaled 229,311 people, which is 13 times more, than 16,903 people over the same period of 2021, Trend reports via Georgian media.

However, the same figure decreased by 27.1 percent, compared to January 2020 (314,672 passengers).

Meanwhile, Tbilisi International Airport served 166,826 passengers in the reporting period of 2022, which is 10 times more, than 16,459 people in January 2021. However, the passenger flow in Tbilsi Airport decreased by 21.1 percent, compared to January 2020 (211,590 people).

The passenger flow at Batumi International Airport increased 174 times, compared to 131 passengers in January 2021, and totaled 22,794 people. The same figure also slightly increased by 3.6 percent, compared to 21,999 passengers over the same month of 2020.

Kutaisi International Airport also showed a drastic increase in the reporting period of 2022. The passenger flow through Kutaisi Airport amounted to 39,049 passengers, which is 298 times more, than 313 passengers in January 2021. However, the same figure decreased by 50.9 percent, compared to January 2020 (79,672 passengers).

Georgia has suspended regular international flights since March 21, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After a pause of several months, the regulation was gradually phased out. However, today the situation is unpredictable due to Omicron, the new COVID-19 strain.
