Georgia's external public debt down

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 18

Georgia’s external public debt as of January 2022 exceeded 24.7 billion Georgian lari ($8.1 billion), which is a decrease of 3.8 percent, compared to 25.7 billion Georgian lari ($7.7 billion) as of the same period of 2021, Trend reports via the Ministry of Finance of Georgia.

According to the statistics, Georgia’s external public debt as of the reporting period of 2022 decreased by $103.8 million, compared to December 2021.

Meanwhile, Georgia’s largest creditors as of January 2022 are Asian Development Bank (ADB), the World Bank International Development Association (IDA), the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), and the European Investment Bank (EIB).

In particular, Georgia’s debt to the ADB amounted to $1.8 billion, to the IBRD - to $1.1 billion, to the IDA - $819.1 million, and to the EIB - to $802.6 million.

Meanwhile, Georgia’s external debt to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as of January 2022 totaled 204.5 million in special drawing rights (SDR).
