Georgia Materials 9 November 2006 17:52 (UTC +04:00)

(civil.ge) - Abkhazia and South Ossetia are part of Georgia, but Moscow has a commitments towards the residents of these regions because many of them are Russian citizens, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Ivanov told the Russian daily Izvestia in an interview published on November 9, reports Trend.

He also said that Georgia has done nothing to have a dialogue with the breakaway regions.

And very little time has passed to forget the bloody events of the early nineties, the ethnic cleansing of the Abkhaz and Ossetian populations, he said.

Ivanov said it is hard to predict how events will develop in these regions, though he added that much will depend on how the western powers will act in respect to Kosovo.
