Baku, Azerbaijan, Oct. 4
By Orkhan Quluzade – Trend:
Turkey does not want Russia and the US to have a conflict of interests on the Syrian issue, Fikri Isik, Turkish defense minister, said, Anadolu Agency reported Oct. 4.
The minister added that Turkey intends to protect its own interests in case of serious contradictions between the US and Russia over the Syrian issue.
Earlier, John Kirby, spokesman for the US Department of State, said the US suspends the use of "bilateral channels" with Russia, created to maintain the ceasefire in Syria.
Syria has been suffering from an armed conflict since March 2011, which, according to the UN, has so far claimed over 500,000 lives. Militants from various armed groups are confronting the Syrian government troops. The IS, YPG and PYD are the most active terrorist groups in Syria.
