Iranian Red Crescent Society spokesman Abdorra'uf Adibzadeh said Tuesday Iran is planning to send a ship carrying Iranian humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip next Sunday, Xinhua reported.

The ship contains 1,100 tons of humanitarian aid including 50 tons of medicine, said Adibzadeh, adding that the aid is scheduled to reach Gaza in 14 days.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said Tuesday that Iran has made contacts with the Egyptian government and awaits Egypt's response for a route to facilitate the delivery of the aid.

Mehmanparast said in a press briefing that Iran has made contacts with the Egyptian government on arrangements to facilitate the delivery of the shipments to "the impoverished people of Gaza" and any Egyptian efforts in opening a delivery route would be "appreciated by nations," the report said.

The Iranian officials have incessantly used stark rhetoric condemning Israel's siege on Gaza and called on Israel to lift fully the siege and reopen all crossings to Gaza so that humanitarian aid can be shipped into the territory.
