Three soldiers were killed and four others injured in an attack in the eastern section of the
Algerian capital, according to media reports Friday, dpa reported.
The incident happened early Thursday near the village of Dar el Beida in the
Baghlia region. The attackers set off a bomb as a military convoy passed through the village, according to the newspaper El Watan.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers then shot at victims of the bombings with automatic weapons.
Algeria is the organizational stronghold of
Al-Qaeda Organization in the Islamic Maghreb (AQMI,) previously known as the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat.
