Al-Moallem and Clinton: Constructive Dialogue to be Continued, Obstacles Hindering Peace on All Tracks Reviewed

Al-Moallem and Clinton: Constructive Dialogue to be Continued, Obstacles Hindering Peace on All Tracks Reviewed

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem met here with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton where both sides discussed bilateral relations in all of their aspects and ways of developing them in the interest of countries, security and stability in the region, SANA reported.

The two sides agreed upon the necessity to continue constructive dialogue between them as to eliminate the obstacles hindering the normalization of the bilateral relations.

The talks dealt with Mideast Peace Process. The US side renewed President Barack Obama's commitment to work for the realization of the peace on all tracks of the peace process.

 Both sides reviewed the obstacles hindering the realization of this objective; where Minister al-Moallem underscored that Syria has been waiting deeds and not words from Israel as to prove through which its willingness in the making of the peace.

The two sides asserted their keenness to see Lebanon stable and secure enjoying distinguished relations with Syria.

Ministers al-Moallem and Clinton also discussed the situation in Iraq, asserting joint care about security and stability in it, and about formation of a national unity government with the participation of all parliamentary blocs winning the latest parliamentary elections.

Further, both sides asserted keenness on the unity of Iraq, its Arabism, independence, and sovereignty away from foreign interferences and on Iraq having good relations with all its neighbors.

Present at the talks from the Syrian side were: Deputy Foreign Minister Dr. Fayssal Mikdad, Syrian Ambassador to Washington Dr. Imad Moustapha, Director of Foreign Media Department in the Foreign Ministry Bushra Kanafani.

Present at the talks from the US side were: US Mideast Peace Envoy George Mitchell, the Under Secretary for Political affairs William Burns, Acting Assistant Secretary for Near Eastern Affairs Jeffrey Feltman and the Assistant to US Middle East Peace Envoy Frederick Hoff.
