At least 11 people were killed and 18 injured in a road accident in Cairo early Friday, official media reported.
A driver lost control of his vehicle on an overpass when trying to avoid a truck and instead hit a group of people waiting at the side of the road, DPA reported.
The car broke through an iron railing on the side of the overpass and crashed below.
Traffic accidents are common in Egypt due to poor road conditions, weak enforcement of safety regulations and reckless driving.
Some 8,000 people die and 32,000 are injured on Egypt's roads each year, according to official estimates.
In recent weeks, four tourists, including one German mother, have been killed in several accidents in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula.
