Caretaker of the Iranian Foreign Ministry Ali-Akbar Salehi conveyed the special message of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei to Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani, IRNA reported.
After meeting with the Grand Ayatollah here Thursday morning, he emphasized the very particular and central position of Ayatollah Sistani in the community of Iraqi Muslims and said he delivered the message of Ayatollah Khamenei to him.
He further stressed the pivotal role of Ayatollah Sistani and hoped that the Iraqi nation would reach tranquility and security through his teachings and guidelines.
Prior to his departure to Najaf, Salehi also met with another major cleric in Karbala Ayatollah Mohammad-Taqi Modaressi.
During the meeting, both parties stressed the need for resolving transport and travel problems between the two countries.
Salehi arrived in Baghdad Wednesday morning to meet with senior Iraqi officials on issues of mutual interest.
