Thousands of protesters remained on the streets of Cairo on Friday evening in defiance of a curfew ordered by Egyptian President Hosny Mubarak, eyewitnesses said, dpa reported.
Earlier, Egyptian state television had reported that the curfew would be imposed at 6 pm (1600 GMT) in Cairo, Suez and Alexandria. The curfew is to remain in force until 7 am.
But as the curfew time arrived, thousands of people were seen on the streetes of the capital.
Meanwhile, Mubarak was due to give a live nationwide address on television Friday evening.
