Egyptian police forces were ordered to return to the streets on Sunday, two days after their disappearance, so as to coordinate with the army to restore security and control violence amid the ongoing revolt, Xinhua reported.
Outgoing Egyptian Interior Minister Habib al-Adly inspected the central security forces on Sunday and ordered the measure, stressing the importance of policemen's commitment to their role and orders in this crucial phase, state media reported.
The police patrols will track down the looters and outlaws and recapture prisoners who had escaped from jails across the country.
Meanwhile, President Hosni Mubarak ordered on Sunday evening the curfew in Cairo, Alexandria and Suez to be extended as of Monday. The curfew, previously from 4 p.m. to 8 a.m., now runs from 3 p.m. (1300 GMT) to 8 a.m..
However, the curfew has been defied by protesters in the past two days.
Major damage and robbing took place in the absence of the police, despite an intensive presence of the army.
The army has also reinforced its presence in the Egyptian streets since Friday.
The army said on Sunday that at least 3,113 outlaws and prisoners who had escaped from some jails across the country were captured over the past two days.
