NATO disputes report of strike in central Tripoli
A NATO spokeswoman Thursday denied reports that NATO had launched airstrikes against central Tripoli as part of its ongoing campaign to support rebel forces in Libya, dpa reported.
"We can confirm that NATO aircraft struck an SA-2 anti-aircraft battery 40 kilometres south of Tripoli this afternoon," said spokeswoman Oana Lungescu, speaking on the sidelines of a NATO conference in Berlin.
"We are very careful in our targeting to minimise the risk to the civilian population."
"This allegation that the strike was in central or downtown Tripoli is clear misinformation, such as we have already seen several times this week."
