Five security personnel were killed and four wounded in a terrorist bomb attack Thursday in the Algerian town of Oued Djemaa, around 140 kilometres west of Algiers, local authorities reported.
The bombing is believed to be the work of Islamist extremists, who have stepped up such attacks in the past weeks, dpa reported.
Algeria, like much of the broader North Africa and Middle East region, has also been rocked by anti-government protests, though the violence has not escalated to the levels seen in countries such as Libya and Syria.
