The killing of al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden is "a step towards eliminating terrorism," an unnamed official source said Monday in a statement carried by Saudi Arabia's state news agency SPA.
"The Saudi people are amongst the most targeted by this terrorist organization and its crimes," the statement said, DPA reported.
Saudi hopes bin Laden's death "will help eliminate the misguided ideology which he stood behind," the statement added.
The Saudi government stripped bin Laden of his citizenship and froze his assets in the 1990s because of his involvement in terror attacks and his advocacy of extremist and violent ideologies.
