Hamas authorities on Wednesday denied reports that an Iranian official has entered the Gaza Strip using a fake passport, Xinhua reported.
The reports that the Iranian official, said to be an aide to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, were untrue, said a statement by Gaza's Hamas government. "These reports are lies."
The reports quoted a security source from Gaza as saying that the official, whose name was undisclosed, entered Gaza through Egypt with a fake passport.
Hamas, the Islamic movement that took over Gaza by force in 2007, has close ties with Iran. The United States and most of European countries classified Hamas as a terrorist group.
