Kuwait denies busting spy ring

Kuwait on Wednesday denied local media reports that the country has busted a spy ring working for an unidentified Arab country, Xinhua reported.

Local daily quoted unspecified sources as reporting that the emirate has found a espionage ring, after a Kuwaiti criminal court in March sentenced to death two Iranians and one Kuwaiti for links with an spy cell related with Iran.

The report, without identifying with whom the ring were related, said the alleged ring was plotting to carry out sabotage in Kuwait and other countries in the region.

Interior Minister Sheikh Ahmed al-Hamoud al-Sabah told the parliament Wednesday that they are "not matters related to an espionage ring."

Oil-rich Kuwait, a key U.S. ally, houses U.S. military base Camp Arifjan in the south of the country, which provides logistics for Washington's military operations in Iraq.

The emirate last May destroyed an espionage cell allegedly gathering information for Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and arrested several members. Iran has denied the accusation.
