An Egyptian misdemeanor court on Saturday sentenced a man to three years in prison for inciting sectarianism and insulting Islam in his posts on Facebook, dpa reported.
Ayman Youssef Mansour was charged with "deliberately mocking Islam, the Koran, (the) Prophet Mohamed and members of his household, in an outrageous and scurrilous way," official media reported. Examples of his statements were not released.
Egyptian law outlaws insults to religion. This is the second verdict against online posts seen by a court to be in contempt of religion.
In 2007, blogger Abdel Kareem Amer was sentenced to four years in prison on charges of insulting Islam and then-president Hosny Mubarak on his blog.
