Supreme Military Council of Egypt Kamal Ganzouri has been officially appointed as the country's prime minister, Al Jazeera reported.
Ganzouri headed a cabinet from 1996 to 1999 that introduced some economic liberalisation measures. Many Egyptians considered him as an official not tainted by corruption, but his service under Mubarak could stir opposition from those demanding a clean break with the past.
Army General Mokhtar al-Mullah said at a news conference that the army hopes to form a new government before the parliamentary elections begins on Monday.
