British Prime Minister David Cameron has left for a visit to Saudi Arabia for talks aimed at strengthening "vital" relations with the oil-producing country, the government in London said early Friday, dpa reported.

He would hold meetings Friday with King Abdullah and Crown Prince Nayif, focussing on trade relations, energy security, counter-terrorism and political reform, a spokesman said.

Saudi Arabia is Britain's biggest trading partner in the Middle East with bilateral trade worth 15 billion pounds (23 billion dollars) a year, while Saudi investment in Britain is worth more than 62 billion pounds.

The spokesman said the British government saw strong relations with Saudi Arabia as "vital to advancing Britain's interests in the region."
