A joint project by Iran and Turkey to produce 10,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity is considered by private investors, Mehr News Agency quotes deputy energy minister as saying.
Under the proposed agreement, the power plants will be built in both countries. The first phase of the project will produce 6,000 MW of electricity and the second phase will generate 4,000 MW of electricity, Deputy Energy Minister Mohammad Behzad said.
Iran will build a power plant with capacity of 4,000 MW, while Turkey will construct a 2,000-MW plant in the initial stage of the joint project. Under the agreement, Iran will send a thousand megawatts of electricity to Turkey.
Private shareholders in both countries will invest in the project and they are finalizing negotiations.
Iran exchanges energy with Armenia, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, the Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan, Iraq and Afghanistan.
