Three men armed with rifles attacked Egyptian Presidential Candidate Abdel Moneim Abul Fotouh and stole his car on Thursday evening, his campaign manager Ali al-Bahnasawy said.
Fotouh suffered concussion when he was hit with a rifle butt while trying to protect his driver after he was assaulted by armed men on Cairo's Ring Road, his driver was also injured, RIA Novosti reported.
Abdel Moneim Abul Fotouh is a former senior member of the Muslim Brotherhood and is considered to be one of the most popular candidates running for the Egyptian presidential election scheduled for June.
According to Egyptian police the country has witnessed a dramatic increase in crime since the ouster of former dictator Hosni Mubarak in February 2011.
