Airstrikes targeting militants affiliated with al-Qaeda in southern Yemen killed 23 insurgents overnight, Al Arabiya broadcaster reported on Saturday.
The raids targeted militants in the city of al-Bayda, some 130 kilometres south of the capital Sana'a, DPA reported.
Al-Qaeda radicals, believed to have a strong foothold in the area, have increased their action since President Abd Rabu Mansour Hadi took office last month.
They have taken advantage of a year-long of political turmoil and the weak central government to expand their influence in the impoverished Arabian Peninsula country.
