Syria's Muslim Brotherhood declares Annan plan failed

A leading figure in the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood, Gaysa Ulabi, declared that the plan of international mediator Kofi Annan had failed, in comments Saturday to Turkish news agency Anadolu.

"We accepted the Annan plan at the beginning with the hope that it would stop the massacre of civilians. However, international steps taken have only led to Assad's gaining time," Ulabi said.

"Civilian casualties in Syria continue. The Annan plan and the UN have been unsuccessful in Syria," added the executive board member of the Brotherhood, DPA reported.

"The Syrian people are in great solidarity within themselves. Despite Assad's plans to create enmity between sects and ethnic groups, the Syrian people have united as one," he told Anadolu.
