The head of the UN refugee agency on Friday said there was a shortfall of 700 million dollars in funding to assist displaced Syrians, dpa reported.
"There is no way a gap of this magnitude can be filled with current humanitarian budgets. We are witnessing not only a humanitarian tragedy, but also a threat to international peace and security," Antonio Guterres told reporters in Beirut.
Relief agencies had received only 30 per cent of the money required to cover the basic needs of an estimated 1.1 million Syrian refugees, he said.
