Emir of Qatar Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani officially announced the transfer of power to his son, Crown Prince Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, 'Al Jazeera' channel reported on Tuesday.
Hamad Al-Thani expressed confidence that Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani will do everything necessary for continuing the development of Qatar.
On the eve of the Emir met with his family members and high-ranking officials of the country and announced his intention to transfer power to the Crown Prince.
Back in the beginning of the month, there were rumors that the Emir of Qatar, who is now 61 years old, is considering the possibility of transferring power to the 33-year-old crown prince.
Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani was born in 1980 and is the second son of the Emir and his second wife Mozah bint Nasser. The Crown Prince of Qatar is an officer of the army and heads the country's Olympic committee.
