Radical Muslim cleric Abu Qatada was being deported to Jordan from Britain Sunday to face terrorism charges after a decade-long legal battle, dpa reported.
A plane left from the Royal Air Force base in Northolt en route to Abu Qatada's home country, where he has not been for 20 years.
A Jordanian military tribunal sentenced him in absentia for alleged involvement with terrorist groups in 1998.
The deportation was finally able to proceed after the two nations signed a treaty agreeing that evidence obtained through torture would not be used against him.
