The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemns the decision of US President Donald Trump to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, the OIC told Trend.
As stated by the organization, this decision is a flagrant violation of international law and relevant resolutions of the UN, particularly the UN Security Council resolutions 242 (1967) and 497 (1981).
"The OIC calls on all countries of the world to respect decisions based on international law and not to take any measures and actions against the territorial integrity of Syria," as stated by the OIC.
On March 25, 2019, Trump signed a declaration recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights during a meeting with the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
After the signing of the document recognizing the Golan Heights as a part of Israel by the US President Donald Trump, Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General Stéphane Dujarric said that the position of the UN on this issue remains unchanged.
Dujarric stated during a briefing that it is “clear” to the UN Secretary-General that “the status of Golan has not changed”, and that the “UN’s policy on Golan is reflected in the relevant resolutions of the Security Council".
