Demonstrations against Lebanon's deteriorating economy were held Sunday across the country, the National News Agency reported, Trend reports citing Xinhua.

Protesters chanted slogans against the government while holding signs asking officials to resign or at least facilitate their access to basic needs.

"We want to live with dignity," one sign read.

"The authorities are not capable of providing basic services for citizens," another one read.

One man held a sign reading "enough with the theft and corruption."

Protesters cut the roads in different parts of the country including Beirut, Tripoli, Sidon, Baalbek and other areas.

They threw garbage in the middle of the streets and set them on fire.

"I came here to defend my rights," one protester said while adding that officials should be able to meet the demand of the citizens and should not come to power for their own goals.

Lebanon has been suffering from dire economic circumstances including a huge deficit in its balance of payments.
