BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 20. France has officially pulled the plug on its sole military base in Côte d'Ivoire, signaling the curtain call on decades of French military presence in the region, Trend reports via foreign sources.

The French army had maintained a strong presence in the Côte d'Ivoire for many years. The withdrawal from the base is viewed as a continuation of shifting dynamics in the region. During the flag-raising ceremony at the military base, the flags of the Côte d'Ivoire were hoisted, and official documents were signed by both French and Côte d'Ivoire ministers.

The announcement that French troops would leave the military base was made by the President of Côte d'Ivoire Alassane Ouattara Alassane Ouattara in December last year.

At the time of the withdrawal, the French military base in Port-Bouet housed around 1,000 soldiers.
