( dpa ) - An Israeli army unit shot dead a Palestinian militant in the West Bank city of Tulkarm early Monday, security officials said.
They said the unit surrounded a house where Ibrahim Basha, 25, a member of Saraya al-Quds, the military wing of the radical Islamic Jihad faction, was staying.
Basha was shot in an brief exchange of fire in which an Israeli army officer was injured, the officials said.
The army used a bulldozer to demolish part of the house where Basha was staying.
An Israeli military spokeswoman confirmed the unit's commander was lightly injured.
