( dpa ) - Four militants of the Islamic Hamas movement were killed and three wounded Saturday night in an Israeli airstrike on northern Gaza Strip, witnesses and medics said.

Hamas armed wing al-Qassam Brigades said in a statement that an Israeli aircraft fired a missile at the group of Hamas militants east of Jabalia town in northern Gaza Strip.

Mo'aweya Hassanein, chief of emergency and ambulance services in the Palestinian health ministry, confirmed the four deaths and three wounded to reporters.

Earlier Saturday, two Islamic Hamas militants were killed in two separate Israeli airstrikes carried out on eastern Gaza City and on the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah.

Another three Hamas militants were killed after they carried out one of the deadliest armed attacks on Kerem Shalom border crossing between southern Gaza Strip and Israel, injuring 16 Israeli soldiers.

Hamas took control of the Gaza Strip in mid-June of last year following weeks of heavy fighting with rival Fatah forces.
