Israeli President Receives Ehud Olmertїs Resignation

Israel, Jerusalem, 22 September / Trend corr. A.Gut / The 12th Israeli Premier Ehud Olmert visited Israeli President Shimon Peres at his official residence in Jerusalem in the evening of 21 September. Objective of the visit was a necessity to sign a statement on resignation of the Premier being in power only 33 months.

їThis is a respectful way, in which the Premier passes his power. This is a difficult decision and I am sure that this is a difficult evening for him, as well,ї the President said, appraising Olmertїs action.

Head of state thanked Olmert for his service to nation and state as Mayor of Jerusalem, as Minister in the government and as Israeli Premier within many years. їThe Premierїs activities focused on security of the Israeli state and welfare of its citizens,ї President Peres stressed.

The President said that he would make very effort to assist and form a new coalition by his New York visit to participate in the United Nations (UN) 63rd General Assembly.

їAt present Israel stands before difficult challenges in the field of security, economic and social problems. Israel is a powerful state with stable basis of democracy. Even Premierїs replacement will not influence on its power, its aspiration for citizensї protection and obligation and desire for peace,ї President Peres said.
