The Palestinian Authority is demanding that Israel implement all the signed agreements including the Access and Movement Agreement
(AMA) of 2005, acting Prime Minister Salam Fayyad said Wednesday, dpa reported.
He said in a joint press conference with Javier Solana, European Union foreign
policy chief, that he discussed this matter with Solana and he will also raise
it with the US peace envoy George Mitchell when they meet on Thursday in
Ramallah.
Fayyad said opening the crossings between Gaza, on one hand, and Israel and Egypt, on the other, is important, but as important is full implementation of the AMA,
which also talks about a safe passage between the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
This, he said, "is important for the unity of the homeland" and
"to restore credibility in the peace process."
Solana said the EU has been following a "balanced" policy toward the
Palestinian-Israel conflict and it will continue to do so. He noted it was his
third trip to Ramallah in recent weeks "to show solidarity with the
Palestinian people."
He said Europe will continue with plans to help the Palestinians both
financially and politically.
Solana earlier met President Mahmoud Abbas.
