Hamas says 11 members arrested in West Bank despite dialogue

Islamic Hamas movement on Monday accused Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' security forces of continuing cracking down against its supporters in the West Bank, Xinhua reported.

The security forces arrested 11 members and supporters of the Islamic movement on Sunday, a statement by Hamas said.

The arrests were made in the cities of Jenin, Nablus, Hebron and Tulkarem, according to the statement.

The statement said the arrests continued while delegations from Hamas and Abbas's Fatah party were holding reconciliation talks in Cairo.

The politically-motivated mutual arrests first started after Hamas routed pro-Abbas forces and seized control of Gaza in 2007.

The two movements failed yet again to agree on forming a unity government restoring political ties to the West Bank and the Hamas- controlled Gaza Strip.
