Two Palestinian families who have been forced to leave their homes in East Jerusalem have staged a sit-in protest, Press TV reported.
Israeli troops evicted the families in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood and moved Jewish settlers to their buildings on Sunday. The move drew condemnation from the US, the UN and rights groups.
The two families are sitting in front of their homes in the neighborhood in protest at the evictions, Shirin Yaseen, Press TV's correspondent reported.
Maysun Qawwi, one of the victims of the act told Press TV that she was at home with her husband and five children when around 4-5 a.m. on Sunday, Israeli police broke into their house and evicted them.
She added that the Israeli forces threw them and their furniture into the street adding that she was separated from her children until late Sunday.
Naser, Maysun's husband says he and his family would continue to live in the street in front of their home, hoping that a judge would reverse the decision and let the family return to their house.
He argued that the Jewish settlers' documents, based on which a court ordered the eviction, were fake since he was in possession of the original documents.
East Jerusalem is considered to be an occupied territory by the international community and Israel is obliged to return it to the Palestinians.
Naser Qawwi, however, believes that the US is supporting Israel and does not exert enough pressure on Tel Aviv to fulfill its obligations.
The Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood is home to Palestinian refugees who lost their homes in 1948.
