The international community must increase pressure on
Iran to prevent it from completing its nuclear programme, Israel's Foreign Ministry said, dpa reported.
In a statement quoted Sunday by Israel Radio, the ministry said Iran was in ongoing violation of UN Security Council and International Atomic Energy Agency resolutions, and that it was unreasonable to allow it to continue to enrich uranium.
A Foreign Ministry spokesman was unavailable for comment.
The statement came after Iranian and Russian officials opened Iran's first nuclear power plant Saturday in the southern port city of
Israel regards Iran as its biggest strategic threat, given Tehran's nuclear weapons ambitions, and repeated statements by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and other Iranian leaders that the Jewish state should be wiped off the map.
