Netanyahu vows "tough reaction" to Jerusalem bombing

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed a "tough reaction" to Wednesday's bomb attack in Jerusalem, the first in more than six years, dpa reported.

But he also promised to respond "responsibly and wisely".

"Ever since this government was established we set a clear policy on security issues, whose bottom line is - a tough reaction to each attempt to harm Israel's citizens," Netanyahu told reporters before flying to Moscow.

"This policy has brought us two-years-and-a-half of quiet and security, and I think that all the citizens of Israel have come to know that blessing and to enjoy the fruits of that quiet, to walk in the steets without fear."

"Lately there have been elements which have been trying to break this calm," he said.

"The Israel Defence Forces and the Israeli public have an iron will to defend the country and its citizens," he said.

"We will act fiercely, responsibly and wisely."
