Eleven people were injured overnight Wednesday in a confrontation between Israeli security forces and residents of an Israeli outpost in the West Bank, Xinhua reported.

Police officers, as well as army troops, were attacked at Alei Ayin, an outpost in the Binyamin Regional Council, when they arrived to carry out a court order to demolish several illegal structures.

Settlers blocked routes leading to the outpost. Five were injured in scuffles with police while another three were arrested for hurling stones. A car belonging to the senior police officer in charge of the operation was set ablaze with a Molotov Cocktail.

Police spokesman Mickey Rosenfeld said on Thursday that the police contingency guarded representatives of the Civil Administration, who came to the outpost to carry out a demolition order.

"The officers were met with relatively fierce resistance, with lots of stones thrown at them. Six Border Guard police were injured in the incident," Rosenfeld told Xinhua.

In a separate incident on Sunday night, clashes broke out at Joseph's Tomb, a religious site on the outskirts of the West Bank city of Nablus when security forces were called to confront some 50 Jewish worshipers who barricaded themselves inside the compound.

The worshippers called on the Israeli government to retake full control of the tomb, which is located in Area A - under Palestinian security control, but open to free access for Israelis under the Oslo Accords.

Army officials harshly criticized the group's behavior, saying that their protest risked soldiers' lives, and that it would reassess its decision to allow monthly visits to the site, which are coordinated with Palestinian security agencies.

An Israeli worshipper was shot dead by a Palestinian policeman in a similar incident last month.
