( RIA Novosti ) The Russian UN mission said chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia had failed to be an impartial lawyer to handicap the body's work.
Ilya Rogachev, a Deputy head of the Russian UN mission, said from the UN Security Council rostrum that Carla Del Ponte, who has been nicknamed "the new Gestapo", had decided to be a quasi politician "writing out prescriptions for international relations".
He said the prosecutor was responsible for the Tribunal lacking transparency, and becoming prejudiced and expensive.
Carla Del Ponte has been given a mandate extension till the end of the year Friday. Russia was the only country against the resolution.
Rogachev said the Tribunal condition was asking for urgent measures and added he hoped a new prosecutor would cope with the task.
