( UPI ) - New Polish Defense Minister Bogdan Klich says his country will withdraw its troops from Iraq next year.

Klich said about 900 soldiers will leave Iraq but he did not give a date for the withdrawal, Polish Radio reported Monday.

Klich's comments came three days after the swearing-in of a new coalition government led by liberal Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

The new leadership replaced the conservative nationalist government of former Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski that had endorsed deployment of Polish troops in Iraq.

During his election campaign, Tusk advocated withdrawing Poland's troops. Goverment officials expect the prime minister to provide more details on the pullout later this week.
