Ukraine Expect United States President’s Visit in April 2008

Ukraine, Kiev, 16 January / Trend corr. Z.Novosvitski / Kiev hopes J.W.Bush, the United States President, will pay a visit to Ukraine in April 2008, Viktor Yushenko, Ukrainian President, stated during the meeting with the American delegation headed by Richard Lugar, the co-chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the United States.

Yushenko, on his visit to the United States in spring 2005, invited Bush to visit Ukraine. In December 2005 Boris Tarasuk, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, said that 2006 would be the year of the visit of Bush. However, the data of the visit was not reported.

Another data of Bush's visit to Ukraine was scheduled for summer 2006, before the summit of G8 in St.Petersburg in July. Tony Snow, the Press-Secretary of the White House, informed during the briefing in Washington on 8 June, that Bush considered that the fixed data was not good time for the visit.

Later, the American officials reported that Bush may pay a visit to Ukraine in 2007. William Tailor, the United States Ambassador to Ukraine, sad that Bush's visit to Ukraine was possible only after the special parliamentary election in Ukraine, so nobody can blame America with interference in the pre-election campaign.

Bill Clinton, the former American President, visited Ukraine in spring 2000.
