( dpa )- A suicide bomber attacked mourners at a funeral ceremony Monday evening in the northern Iraqi city of Bayji , killing at least 13 people and wounding 15, according to a local security official.
The funeral was for a relative of the deputy governor of Salahaddin in Bayji , a security official told the Voices of Iraq news agency.
The attack took place in the predominantly Sunni village of Hajaj , west of Bayji , some 200 kilometres north of Baghdad.
The US military said its large-scale security operations against al-Qaeda fighters and insurgents belonging to Sunni extremist groups in Baghdad and Diyala have forced them to regroup in Sunni-dominated northern provinces.
