Greek Orthodox leader Archbishop Christodoulos dies at 69

( dpa ) - Archbishop Christodoulos, the leader of the Greek Orthodox Church, died after a long illness early Monday morning at his residence in Athens, reported national Greek television.

The 69-year-old suffered from liver and intestine cancer. There has been no announcement of when the funeral will take place.

He was elected leader in 1998 and was the youngest archbishop to head the Greek Church.
