( dpa ) - Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem arrived in Amman Sunday for an unscheduled brief visit.

He was expected to have talks with Jordanian officials on current Middle East issues, primarily the ongoing talks between Israel and the Palestinians and the prospects for the launch of a new round of peace talks between the Jewish state and Syria, Amman-based Arab diplomats said.

Al-Moallem's discussions were also expected to focus on the latest developments in Lebanon's political crisis in the light of the new abortive efforts by Arab League Secretary General Amr Mussa, who on Sunday failed to achieve a breakthrough towards a national reconciliation in the country, they added.
