(dpa) - An explosion was reported at the landmark Times Square in New York City on Thursday, with police starting to investigate the cause of the blast, the US television news network CNN reported.
CNN cited police as saying they were investigating a report about an explosion. Police and fire squads cordoned off part of an area around Times Square.
It said that two witnesses had each told a local TV station about hearing a "huge bang" from their hotel rooms.
But there were no police or fire reports of serious damage or injuries, CNN said. Webcam video images from the scene showed normal traffic conditions. But subway service to Times Square was stopped.
