( dpa )- Hosts Taiwan scored a third win on Sunday to remain undefeated, while Australia knocked out Canada during the qualifying baseball tournament for the Beijing Olympics.

But the victory was proven a hard-won one for Taiwan with the host team narrowly beating Germany 2-0 in a game described by Taiwan manager Hung Yi- chung as the toughest one so far.

"It has taken our players quite some time to get used to the exceptionally slow pitches made by Germany," Hung said, referring to the slow pitches ranging between 105 to 115 kilometres per hour showed by German left-hander Andre Hughes.

In another game, Australia upset Canada 10-5 to break the undefeated record of the latter. Both teams now have two wins and one loss.

The eight-team round robin tournament is being played in the Taiwan cities of Taichung and Yunlin until March 14. The teams are vying for three berths at the August 8-24 Games in Beijing.

Taiwan is at 3-0, South Korea at 2-0, Canada and Australia at 2-1, Germany at 1-2; Spain and Mexico at 0-2, and South Africa at 0-2.
