( Xinhua ) - Four people died, 35 people were injured when two trams collided in Ostrava, east of the Czech republic, rail inspector Zdenek Neusar said on Friday.

Cries and weeping of the people blocked in trams can be heard from the wrecks.

According to the information from the Czech news agency CTK, the dead include one of the tram drivers, two children and a woman. During the injuries, 15 people were seriously injured.

Neusar said that one of the drivers seems not to have respected the ban on entering a one-rail track and his tram head-collided with another one, coming from the opposite direction.

The accident's death toll could be even more tragic as several passengers still remain stuck in the trams and are waiting for firefighters to extricate them, CTK quoted regional fire squad head Zdenek Nytra as saying.
