Senegal's president calls for Israeli-Hamas ceasefire
Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade has reportedly appealed to Israel and the militant Palestinian Hamas to declare a ceasefire as of Monday.
In a statement published in the national daily Le Soleil, Wade called for a halt to Israeli incursions into the Gaza Strip and Hamas strikes against Israel, reported Deutsche Welle.
This comes after the president mediated talks between the rival Palestinian factions Fatah and Hamas in Dakar last week. The two factions have been at loggerheads since Hamas seized power in the Gaza Strip last year.
