A Swedish district court on Friday ruled to extend the custody of a 31-year-old German woman extradited to Sweden on suspicion of beating two young children to death, reported dpa.

The woman, a student, was extradited to Sweden at the end of April after an attack on a 23-year-old woman and her children, aged one and three, on March 17 in the small town of Arboga.

The district court in Vasteras, 100 kilometres west of Stockholm, ordered the woman to remain in custody at an initial closed door hearing May 3.

The Swedish mother survived the attack and has since been discharged from hospital. She told Swedish media her hearing is impaired and one eye was injured.

The woman's lawyer Per-Ingvar Ekblad said that his client maintained her innocence, Swedish radio reported after the hearing Friday in Vasteras. dpa lsm ds
