British Prime Minister Gordon Brown
followed his surprise stop Saturday in Iraq by flying on to Tel Aviv, where he
arrived Saturday evening for a two-day visit to Israel and the Palestinian
territories.
On a trip to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the modern
state of Israel, Brown is scheduled to meet Sunday with Israeli President
Shimon Peres and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.
Later Sunday, Brown is slated to meet in Bethlehem on the West Bank with
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Salam Fayyad.
The visit is Brown's first to Israel and the Palestinian territories since he
became premier more than a year ago. His talks with Israeli officials are to
include the Iranian nuclear programme and Israel's ongoing peace efforts with
the Palestinians and Syria, according to Israeli media reports.
On Monday, Brown is to address the Israeli Knesset before his departure, dpa reported.
